Chandigarh 24x7 Pan-City Water Supply Project

24 X 7 PAN city Water Supply Project in Chandigarh is a project for fulfilment of fast growing water demand in the city. The city of Chandigarh, a Union Territory is directly affected by growing water demands due to demographic growth. The city has mobilised its ground water resource to cater the demand. As a result, underground water table is constantly depleting. In order to face these challenges, the project is introduced to renovate its drinking water supply system by extracting surface water source and implementing continuous pressurised system for water supply.

Project Background

To face water demand of growing population, underground water resource of Chandigarh is continuously extracted resulting in depletion of underground water level. Rural exodus, Demographic growth also adds to water scarcity of the region. Change of precipitation regime, Global Warming makes the situation even worse. To overcome the challenges, it was decided by Chandigarh Administration that current water supply system needs to be rejuvenated by establishing a water supply system that depends on surface water source only and is a pressurised 24X7 water supply system.
